25th May 2016

Some places are so good that we just can't resist going back for more. We've done a bit of digging to find out exactly where Aussies can’t seem to get enough of. Here's a glimpse at the top 10 destinations that Australians have grown to love and return to year on year. Expect a few surprising inclusions.

The Philippines is a beach break with a difference. The Philippines takes out the number one spot.

1. Philippines

With more than 7,000 islands, it’s no wonder Australians can’t get enough of the Philippines. But it’s not just the countries pristine beaches that see us returning year on year; the array of outdoor activities and unique culture is unlike many of the neighbouring Southeast Asian countries and makes for a winning combination. Plus, with more than 7,000 islands to visit the Philippines makes it almost impossible to have the same experience twice, though beachside relaxation, stunning sunsets and deliciously fresh seafood are always on the cards.

A beautiful seaside village in Cinque Terre, Italy. It's no surprise Italy draws Aussies back for more.

2. Italy

Rich in culture and history, Italy is the ultimate European holiday destination and Australians can’t help but revisit time and time again. Whether it’s for a romantic gondola ride in Venice, to experience the rich history of Rome, dine on the finest pizza the world has to offer in Naples, explore the Amalfi Coast, experience the charming Cinque Terre or explore the vineyards and small towns of Tuscany; Italy has something for everyone no matter how many times you visit. With one of Europe’s major cruise ship ports on Rome’s doorstep at Civitacecchia, the popularity of cruising has also helped Australia’s love affair with Italy.

3. New Caledonia

It’s easy to see why Escape Travel customers keep returning. The French country stranded on one of the world’s largest lagoons is a unique destination that boasts the glamour of France paired with the hospitality of the South Pacific. Whether it’s for the annual ski holiday, to explore the Rocky Mountains in summer or winter, enjoy wildlife spotting for moose, polar or grizzly bears or whales, discover national parks, lakes and harbours or soak up the countries diverse culture from a touch of France in Montreal to the Celtic traditions in Newfoundland and the diverse and modern Vancouver; Canada is the world’s second-biggest country spread across six time zones meaning visiting just once is never enough.
