The City of Sin may quickly conjure up images of bright lights and endless entertainment but there is much more to Las Vegas than casinos and Elvis themed chapels. In fact, the neon lights that glisten in the heart of the Nevada desert boast a multitude of attractions. From soaring skyward on the renowned Stratosphere Tower to riding the highest Ferris wheel in the world, here are our top five things to in Las Vegas beyond the black jack table.
Face your fears on the Stratosphere Tower
The Stratosphere is not your run-of-the-mill hotel. After all, how many hotels out there play host to America’s tallest outdoor observation deck? Atop the Stratosphere Tower is a collection of bone-chilling rides made purely for adventure seekers, from shooting 160 feet in the air on the Big Shot to spinning wildly on the Insanity at 900 feet high. Perhaps the most intense adrenaline rush can be achieved on the Sky Jump, which involves a scream-inducing leap off the tower. On the other hand, you could get your rush simply by watching other daredevils from the indoor observation deck.
Watch the water dance at the Bellagio
The mesmerising Fountains of Bellagio are a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. Throughout the day, the fountains burst to life in a colourful water, music and light display unlike any other. The complex water feature dazzles as it dances in sync to a number of memorable opera, classical and Broadway tunes. Be sure to set aside time to see the show both in the day and also at night when the fountain sparkles beneath the glittering Las Vegas sky.
Enjoy a taste of New York at Shake Shack
Highly touted New York burger chain, Shake Shack made the brave move just six months ago to open their very first West Coast store. Situated across the Brooklyn Bridge in the famous New York-New York Hotel (makes sense), the eatery is churning out the best burgers, fries and shakes in town. Hungry travellers can now enjoy the renowned ShackBurger alongside a serving of their iconic crinkle chips and a hand-spun shake. Don’t forget to try one of their concretes, a creamy custard ice cream blended at high speed with a host of tasty mix-ins.
Go sky high on the High Roller
Look up and you will see the world’s tallest observation wheel: The High Roller. Situated at the LINQ’s outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment promenade, the giant Ferris wheel stands at a whooping 550 foot tall. Featuring 28 glass enclosed cabins, it takes approximately 30 minutes to do one complete loop. No doubt, you will be glued to the window the entire ride as you experience breathtaking views over the famed resort city and beyond. Love birds could even choose to say ‘I do’ in one of the private High Roller VIP cabins.
Fly over the Las Vegas Strip on the zip line
The Voodoo zipline sees the brave soaring between two towers at over 50 kilometres per hour. Secured in a seat with a harness, much like a chair lift at a ski resort, the ride will have you flying through the air at 490 feet over the Las Vegas Strip. From noon until midnight, you can take flight – the night ride is particularly impressive once the bright lights of the city are on full blast. Try to keep your eyes open so you can appreciate the view on the way through!
