Set to join the fleet in February 2016, ms Koningsdam will be the newest addition to Holland America Line. Her debut is highly anticipated, with the unveiling of brand new innovations alongside beloved traditions. Her beautiful sleek design will combine state-of-the-art facilities with 21st century elegance. Expect to see a stylish atrium soaring three decks high, a cutting edge fitness centre and a luxurious day spa and salon. Perhaps the most impressive feature will be the ship’s extensive culinary offerings.
To begin, there is the Culinary Arts Center with a contemporary chef’s kitchen. Guests can join the fun and prepare regional dishes alongside talented chefs or watch fascinating cooking demonstrations. In the evening, the open kitchen will be used to prepare simple seasonal dishes under the farm-to-table philosophy. Many of the ingredients are freshly grown and harvested right then and there from modern glass-enclosed growing areas. The Culinary Arts Center will also be used for hands-on cooking classes by visiting celebrity chefs and regionally inspired workshops.
Sel de Mer is an intimate seafood brassiere that serves up classic French seafood dishes with a contemporary twist. The menu will feature sumptuous fare, from fresh oysters and seafood chowder to salt-crusted whole fish, scallops and bouillabaisse. Guests can even choose their evening meal from a selection of fresh fish displayed on ice in the middle of the room. Ms Koningsdam will also host the award-winning Pinnacle Grill, offering a feast of epicurean delights. Specialising in dishes inspired by America’s Pacific Northwest, you will enjoy a wealth of choice from the perfect steak to broiled Alaska king salmon, all matched with boutique wines.
The sophisticated Dining Room of ms Koningsdam features a bright and breezy atmosphere. Spread out across two floors, guests can relax and enjoy glorious views out to sea with custom furnishings and modern glass lighting. The centrepiece is a two-story wine tower that showcases the ship’s extensive range of top-notch beverages. The restaurant will offer a smorgasbord of culinary options, including the line’s signature dishes and classic favourites.
If you are tempted by all things spice, then head to Tamarind. Already a favourite on the msEurodam and ms Nieuw Amsterdam, this speciality restaurant focuses on the culinary traditions of Southeast Asia, China and Japan. Sensational flavours abound with specials including steamed dim sum and spicy crab. Tamarind also hosts an intimate sushi bar during lunch and dinner with select seating for just seven guests.
For classic Italian fare, there’s Canaletto. Linger a while with family and friends as you sample share plates of tempting Italian staples. Savour flavourful Italian pasta or share a taste of zuppa di pesce, a tomato saffron broth studded with mussels, scallop and vegetables. The dessert will be a highlight, with gorgeous artisan sweets, from chocolate tortas to tiramisu and gelato.
Another innovative change on ms Koningsdam is the Lido Market, which will be designed as a interactive modern marketplace. Gourmands will enjoy a wide range of speciality stations, with freshly baked bread, tasty salads and plenty of comforting classics. The Sweet Spot will take care of those sugar cravings, with delightful ice cream creations and desserts.
Anytime the stomach rubbles, you can munch on a snack from the Grand Dutch Cafe with a host of Dutch-themed snacks and beverages on tap. For more casual eats, head to the Dive-In at the Terrace Grill for a brioche burger and fries. There’s also complimentary in-room dining available around the clock.
