There is no better time to visit the original Disneyland Resort in California. Celebrating 60 magical years, theme parks are set to dazzle guests with a wealth of new entertainment and sparkling surprises. To honour Disneyland’s rich history, the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration will be underway in US spring 2015 (our autumn). Disneyland Resort has two Theme Parks, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, three Disneyland Resort Hotels and a fantastic Downtown Disney District. So if a Disney adventure has always been on your family’s bucket list, then consider heading to the USA this year for an extraordinary adventure.
To get you California dreamin’, we’ve put together our top insider tips for a day at Disneyland Resort.
Disneyland Resort is not located in downtown Los Angeles but rather approximately 45 minutes drive southeast in Anaheim, a city in Orange Country, California. For ease of travel, especially if you plan to spend a few days in the Park, stay at one of the Disneyland Resort Hotels.
One of the benefits of staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel is the Extra Magic Hour. During every day of your hotel stay, you can have the option to receive early admission to select attractions, stores, entertainment and dining locations in either theme park for one hour before they open to the general public.
Disneyland Park is right next door to Disney California Adventure Park, a separate theme park filled with exciting attractions, including the 12-acre Cars Land. Why not double the fun and grab a Park Hopper Ticket so you can explore both theme parks at once.
Disneyland Resort has more than 60 adventures and attractions so take advantage of Disney’s Fast Pass virtual queuing system. Save your place in line for some of your favourite rides while enjoying the rest of the park. Be sure to stick around in the evening for the amazing World of Colour fireworks display at Disney California Adventure Park.
Located on Main Street USA, the Baby Care Center offers respite for parents. Here you will find a nursing room, changing room, feeding area with high chairs and a kitchen. If you have forgotten any baby products, you can purchase them from the onsite baby shop.
It is a long day and little legs will get weary. You can choose to rent a stroller at Disneyland Resort, just outside the main park entrance. In front of most of the big rides, you will find ‘stroller car parks’ where you can safely place your stroller out of the way.
A favourite snack for Disney enthusiasts, the Mickey-shaped beignets can only be found at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square. Visit the French Market Restaurant for a bite to eat and you may be able to catch a performance of the Royal Street Bachelors.
Reservations ahead of time are expected for character dining at Disneyland Theme Parks and Disney Hotels. You can join Minnie and the gang for an unforgettable breakfast at the Plaza Inn, enjoy a buffet style meal at Goofy’s Kitchen or devour Mickey waffles and pancakes at Disney’s PCH Grill.
Don’t miss Mickey’s Soundsational Parade – it may be the highlight of your entire day. Most afternoons, the whole park will stop to watch this colourful spectacular, complete with whimsical floats, dancing characters and loud music.
For a break from the hustle and bustle, take advantage of the picnic area just outside the main entrance to Disneyland Park. You’ll find a comfortable outdoor seating, complete with chairs, tables and shade umbrellas. Nearby lockers are perfect for storing your picnic lunch.
