There’s something magical about the sunsets at Cable Beach. The way the sun skips across the waves, flashes of light twinkle on the clear, blue water. The pure white sand, the rocky formations and shallow pools. Camels wander along the sand, tourists bobbing up and down on their backs. Seagulls swoop down to the water’s edge and crowds gather on the foreshore to watch the beautiful colours in the night sky. It is paradise.
You can travel to beaches all over the world that have beautiful sunsets, but there’s something special about watching it at Broome. This desert town, where the red earth meets the sea, epitomises Australia’s stunning natural beauty.
It was a full day’s travel for our family to get to Broome, in the north of Western Australia, and for us that sense of remoteness made it even more special. And the flight across the waterways as you come into Broome is a fabulous welcome. Once you step off the plane into the humidity you know you’re on holiday and you immediately relax into the chilled-out vibe of this no-fuss town.
We were lucky enough to stay at the Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa, which is the pick of accommodation for families and couples (there’s even an adults-only pool). But for kids, it’s especially fun. The resort pool is big and fabulously decadent. There’s a water play park, a big playground, mini golf course, tennis courts and ping-pong tables. All are free to use and the staff are super friendly. The family-sized bungalow we stayed in was perfect and the kids loved to watch the wallabies jumping outside the big, wrap-around windows.
You can sit by the pool and sip cocktails or fruit smoothies while the kids’ splash around and at night you can dine poolside. There are a number of restaurants within the resort to choose from and the one where the extensive breakfast buffet is served has the best view over Cable Beach. At night people pack the bar and watch the sunset, while kids play on the lawn, eating fish and chips.
Broome is the perfect launching pad to the Kimberley region that one day we’ll have to return and explore. But in the meantime, we were happy to spend our days relaxing, soaking up the sun and watching sunsets. It was the perfect beachside holiday for our family.
Thanks again Escape Travel for a magical experience.
