Escape Travel Consultant, Dane Gaspar recently returned from an adventure to the island nation of Vanuatu. Over five days, Dane witnessed the island’s incredible natural beauty and took in Vanuatu’s best sights. His time was split between Aore Island and Port Vila, but the lure of the beach was ever-present. Let’s find out Dane’s favourite memories.
Port Vila is known for its adventure activities, from zip lining to zorbing or even abseiling. While most holiday makers will dedicate their time to the gorgeous beaches, there are plenty of opportunities to get an adrenaline fix with a variety of thrill seeking activities.
“The most exciting activity on the trip for me would have to be zip lining near Port Vila. Being suspended several hundred metres above the air admiring the view of the ocean – I felt like I was flying. It took my breath away,” said Dane.
Meanwhile, nothing beats those lazy afternoons in such picturesque surrounds. Dane touted his most relaxing activity as making good use of the hammock, sipping a fresh coconut and enjoying amazing views of the lagoon.
A holiday to Vanuatu is not complete without a visit to one of the island’s blue holes. These magical deep wells are natural springs of pure fresh water and truly are a natural wonder. The Nanda Blue Hole in Natawa is a popular attraction to explore. Dane described seeing a blue hole firsthand as a breathtaking moment.
“The blue hole made my jaw drop, I just couldn’t believe how clear and blue the water was! Its stunning location against the torch ginger flowers and the fact that I couldn’t hear civilisation at all, made it surreal,” explained Dane.
For the first part of the trip, Dane enjoyed staying in a peaceful ocean facing bungalow on Aore Island, where he fell asleep to the sound of waves. On the other hand, Port Vila had every feature and activity at your fingertips, perfect for families or active travellers. Needless to say, Dane loved Vanuatu and hopes to return, sooner rather than later.
“I had no idea how beautiful Vanuatu really was until I saw it with my own eyes. I was amazed how close to Australia this island nation really is. I was very pleased with the hospitality of the locals and the amazing service and smiles I received everywhere I went. What will always stick in my mind is the stunning colour of the ocean and the beautiful beaches. Colours that you cannot record on canvas or even through a photo – it must be witnessed with your own eyes,” said Dane.
