At only just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane and 15 minutes from the Gold Coast airport, the Salt precinct has to be one of the best getaways for families looking for a relaxing holiday or long weekend.
The patrolled beach is just what most families are after, wide stretches of sand, small to medium waves for the kids to play in and often very quiet compared to the key beaches on the Gold and Sunshine Coast.
Facilities in the Salt Village include shops, family friendly tavern and restaurants and plenty of parklands for the kids to play til their hearts content.
My pick for accommodation is the 4.5 star Peppers Salt Resort and Spa. Keeping the kids occupied is a breeze with so many options. Whether it be swimming in the lagoon pool, exploring the beach, playing tennis or riding the many bikes available to hire - there is always something to do! There are even lots of resident bunny rabbits living in the gardens that the kids will chase for hours. If the weather turns bad, all is not lost as the free in house movies (great child friendly selection) are a real bonus to keep everyone happy.
Rooms are modern and comfortable with all the expected facilities (including Bose audio) and for not too much extra per day, I would strongly recommend upgrading to the 2 Bedroom apartments with plunge pool. These plunge pools mean that mum and dad can relax in the room with their coffee and a good book while their kids swim in full view. Everyone's happy.
For those families wanting to explore the surrounding area, the local estuary is great for a spot of fishing, water sports or canoeing. Further afield try Macadamia Castle which has a good animal farm, mini golf and a great tree house play area or a day trip to Byron Bay to see the lighthouse (tours run every 30 mins) and don't forget that Wet ‘N’ Wild, Dreamworld, Movie World and Sea World are only 30mins away.
For mums looking for some much needed pampering, the onsite day spa "The Spa @ Salt" is world class and for dads, there are a number of great golf courses close by.
For any mums and dads looking for a relaxing and easy family holiday, Salt at Kingscliff is certainly hard to beat.
