After you say ‘I do’ it’s time to disappear on your first holiday as Mr and Mrs - your honeymoon. Most couples are looking for a relaxing getaway after their big day, but the question is, where in the world do you go? Escape Travel’s Marketing Manager, Emma Gilleland, has the inside scoop of where couples are going on their honeymoons this year and as it turns out, most are opting for a sun kissed beach escape.
It’s no surprise that one of our most popular honeymoon destinations is beautiful Fiji. Well known for its stunning beaches and warm tropical climate, Fiji appears as an ideal destination to unwind after your wedding day. Marketing Manager Emma Gilleland, believes that’s not the only reason why honeymooners are flocking to Fiji’s golden beaches.
“The Fiji islands welcome honeymooners with open arms – with some of the friendliest locals in the world. Yes there’s the natural beauty of the islands but you will be equally moved by the genuine and kind hearted Fijian people,” said Emma.
Thailand’s largest island, Phuket is also consistently a winner with honeymooners. The golden shores of Phuket beckon newlyweds to enjoy the beautiful beaches and experience warm Thai hospitality. Emma mentions that it’s also the rich cultural experience of Thailand that draws honeymooners to this island.
“You can choose to spend your days simply relaxing on the beach or if you’re feeling more energetic there are lots of options to experience rich Thai culture. Honeymooners can take a day trip to one of the islands or taste the incredible fresh cuisine – particularly the seafood,” said Emma.
For a truly romantic honeymoon, you can’t go past the majestic French Polynesian islands, particularly Tahiti and Bora Bora. It’s no surprise that Emma reveals the overwater bungalows in Bora Bora are, without doubt, one of our most popular honeymoon choices.
“Peaceful lagoons surrounded by towering green peaks, sumptuous beachfront resorts and a unique French flavour, these all combine to make Bora Bora synonymous with romance,” explains Emma.

Heavenly Hawaii. 10 Reasons Why Hawaii is Hot
A recent addition to our most popular honeymoon destinations, Hawaii has grown in popularity considerably over the past twelve months. Emma explains that Hawaii has become a more affordable option now there is an increase in cheap flights from the East Coast, plus there is a large range of accommodation options to suit all budgets. Honeymooners can also choose to combine their Hawaiian beach holiday with a relaxing cruise.
“The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is famous for its elegant ‘pink’ interior and is situated right on the beach front. It’s a favourite for romantics,” said Emma. “Lots of couples are combining a few days in a luxurious hotel with a cruise on the Pride of America departing from Honolulu for something a little different."
From famous surf beaches to vibrant nightlife, Bali is continually a favourite amongst honeymooners. With rich culture, tempting cuisine, bargain shopping and unique temples, it really is no surprise Bali is a popular destination.
Emma explains, “There are just so many regions in Bali to explore, each as unique and varied as the next. The ever hospitable locals are eager to share their island with you. Ubud is fast becoming the hidden mountain of choice with new five star accommodations with sweeping views.”
