Escape Travel’s national marketing manager, Emma Gilleland, said the idea for couples to get engaged during a holiday had become more common in the past year due to the affordability of flights and an increased desire to see the world before committing to each other.
“Quite often the backdrop is selected before the ring, as more and more young couples plan to take a holiday well in advance, based on when they secure cheap flights or see a great deal,” Ms Gilleland said.
“Getting engaged is a special time in a couple's life, and the story behind the proposal will be repeated several times over, so it's worth thinking about what is meaningful to both of you,” she said.
Ms Gilleland said when choosing how and where to pop the question, consider the time of year that you will be travelling and where you will both feel most like yourselves.
