Halloween Fun

New Orleans, Louisiana
This southern belle claims the title as, “America’s Most Haunted City,” because of the vast proportion of historic houses that dominate the heart of the city. Buildings that have experienced other-world sightings include Lalaurie House, Le Pavilion Hotel, Gardette-LePrete House and Hotel Monteleone. For Halloween, the city hosts a parade and a costume contest.

Anoka, Minnesota
Arguably the first American city to celebrate Halloween, Anoka continues the tradition by hosting a month long festival. Consider flying into this Minnesota city and enjoying the Anoka Beauty Pageant, various parades, ghost tours and admiring the pumpkin carving demonstrations. The whole city really goes all out to keep title as, “The Halloween Capital of the World.”

Salem, Massachusetts
Gaining notoriety in Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, Salem is revered as the location of the witch trials held during the late seventeenth century. As such, this American city continues the ghostly tradition with a colourful parade and witch trial re-enactments. While you’re in town, be sure to check out the various buildings associated with the witch trials of 1692.

New York, New York
We think any excuse to visit New York is a great reason to go; but for Halloween the city hosts a parade that’s generally watched by around two million people. The poltergeist procession is full of spectral splendour and is sure to keep the whole family entertained. To continue the ghoulish theme, sign up for a dedicated Ghost Tour of New York to uncover the city’s unearthly side.

San Francisco, California
Over the Halloween period, take the ferry from San Francisco to the infamous prison Alcatraz, for a special candlelit tour. Stay close to the guide to avoid the ghosts of inmates past who continue to walk the corridors. Back on the mainland, the city hosts various Halloween parties including a Ball at the Hilton Hotel and a Heaven & Hell Halloween Bash at the Horizon Restaurant.
