While the beaches are understandably the number one attraction for visitors to Mauritius, here at Escape Travel, we thought we’d put together a list of other activities for couples visiting this beautiful island nation.
Here are our top five romantic activities on Mauritius.
Travel to the seaside resort of Souillac and head up the cliff top for the spectacular views over the southern coastline of the country. This is a great spot to watch the sun set together against the Indian Ocean. For scenic views over Port Louis, stroll up Le Pouce from the village of Petit Verger.
From the coastal destination of Case Noyale Drive, take a drive inland along the winding road towards Chamarel. The scenery is fantastic with different hues shimmering in the sunlight. The colours are caused by the erosion of the volcanic ash. Once you arrive in Chamarel, check out the picturesque waterfalls.
There’s something magical about watching dolphins frolic in beautiful waters. Sign up for a dolphin watching boat cruise and take turns at spotting these playful marine wonders. Bottlenose and spinner dolphins live in the waters off the west coast of Mauritius.
Hire a double kayak and row in unison across these spectacular waters. Couples have the option of exploring inland lagoons or heading out onto the ocean and to explore the scenic islets including the nearby D’Ambre Island off the north-east coast.
The south-eastern fishing village of Mahebourg hosts the most popular markets on the island. Held every Monday, this is a great opportunity to shop for trinkets to take home. When you’re done with the stalls, make sure you admire the Grand Port Bay.
