Five Romantic Queensland Destinations

14th August 2012

It’s no secret that the Whitsunday Islands are exquisitely beautiful and provide the perfect setting for a romantic getaway. However within the glorious Sunshine State there are many other locations that inspire love and affection – many you may like to consider on your next Queensland holiday.

Here are our top five ‘other’ romantic Queensland destinations.

Beautiful Noosa

At the northern end of the scenic sunshine coast lies the beautiful enclave of Noosa, where the beach is stunning, the national park is home to koalas and the nearby everglades offer the perfect opportunity for dual kayaks. After a busy day sight-seeing, pull up a chair at one of the fine-dining restaurants to savour a delicious dinner accompanied with a locally-produced bottle of wine.

Eungella National Park
One of our favourite hiking destinations, Eungella just inland from Mackay is a beautiful rural setting that inspires respite and rejuvenation. What makes this spot all the more special are the local platypus population that regularly frolic in the nearby river.

Lady Elliot Island
As an alternative island break from Hamilton Island, consider heading to Lady Elliot Island, just off the coast from Agnes Water. Spend your day chilling on the beach or snorkelling over the adjacent coral reefs; the surrounding waters are renowned for the 40 manta rays who call the region home. The resort itself is extremely beautiful and boasts terrific environmental credentials.

Lamington National Park
The Lamington National Park is conveniently located south-west of Brisbane. This reserve offers a wonderful mountain retreat with comfy accommodation options available at Binna Burra and O’Reilly’s. The hiking opportunities through the rainforests are breath-taking as streams and waterfalls surprise visitors behind the next turn.

Port Douglas
The holiday resort town of Port Douglas provides the perfect opportunity to explore the nearby natural wonders or simply relax by your resort’s pool. For those keen to head out, the region’s drawcards are the Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation and the Great Barrier Reef. A sunset sail over the beautiful Tropical North waters is a must for couples.
