Family Shopping in Hong Kong

18th July 2011

It's pretty common knowledge that Hong Kong is a shopaholics heaven. The part that many of us need the inside info on is how to shop in Hong Kong with a family. Escape Travel has four family friendly shopping in Hong Kong tips.

Hong Kong shopping tour1. Get in your walking clothes. Make sure the whole family is in their "comfy" clothes and shoes. You'll be covering a lot of ground and comfort will keep everyone smiling (over looks) when a big day is on the cards.

2. Take shopping breaks to visit some of Hong Kong's best free playgrounds. Don't expect the average playground with a couple of sets of swings and a slide. Hong Kong does playgrounds pretty well from live orangutan and alligators to multi-level playgrounds there is certainly no shortage in selection. Check out Little Steps blog post 'Best Playgrounds in Hong Kong' to plan where to go.

3. Give the kids their own budget for their shopping (and go in sale season). By giving the kids their own budget it will help to minimise the "Mum, Dad, can I have this pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase". It will also keep the kids more interested and help them learn about foreign currency and snatching a bargain! Sale season is typically December to January and July to August - however you will get great prices all year round.

4. Visit Cityplaza, there is entertainment for the kids and shopping for you! 160 retail outlets, an ice-skating rink, a 24 metre high indoor arch and a musical fountain! Need we say more? Cityplaza is located at 18 Taikoo Shing Road, Taikoo Shing, Island East, Hong Kong. Oh... and there is a huge Toys 'R' Us there too.
