Darwin Shopping Guide

Held every Thursday and Sunday night from April to October, the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets are Darwin shopping at its best. With stalls selling everything from arts and crafts to international food, accompanied by good music and friendly faces, it's also a great spot to kick back while watching the sun set over the horizon.

Other good markets include Rapid Creek Markets and the Friday night market in Palmerston.

Mindil Beach Sunset Markets

One of the best things to do in Darwin is take a stroll through the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets. From April to October, a collection of stalls pop up every Thursday and Sunday on the shores of Mindil Beach, beckoning the locals to enjoy the sensational sunset. The tempting array of local and international food on offer is certainly a highlight but you’ll also find a selection of fashion items, homewares, artworks and handmade jewellery.

Smith Street Mall

Darwin’s main shopping strip is Smith Street in the heart of the CBD.  The Smith Street Mall encompasses a variety of landmarks, including the heritage building of the Victoria Hotel and the Star Village Arcade. This is the perfect place to pick up quality souvenirs like Aboriginal arts and crafts, Northern Territory pearls and crocodile skin handbags.

Casuarina Square

Escape the heat and spend an afternoon exploring the air-conditioned shopping mall, Casuarina Square. Home to over 180 stores including two department stores, it remains the large shopping centre in the Northern Territory. You’ll find two supermarkets, Kmart and Big W, JB Hi-Fi and Best and Less to name a few. Relax and catch the latest flick at the seven screen cinema.

Parap Village Market

Every Saturday, you can browse the goods at the Parap Village Markets. The local produce is in abundance, from home grown vegetables to exotic fruits. Vendors will also be selling all kinds of arts and crafts, clothing, jewellery, beauty products and fresh flowers. Complete your market experience by enjoying one of the tantalising dishes on offer and sip a cup of freshly roasted coffee.

Mitchell Centre

A modern air-conditioned shopping centre in the CBD, Mitchell Centre is open seven days a week. Situated on the corner of Mitchell Street, you’ll find all the staples here including a supermarket, bakery and pharmacy. There’s also a selection of fashion and accessories plus a stack of food options, perfect for lunch or grabbing a tasty snack.
