Beware of souvenir sellers who raise their prices when cruise ships are in dock. Many of the tourists from the ships have been to destinations where haggling is commonplace, so the market prices are raised slightly to allow for a small drop through haggling. Locals and other tourists tend to avoid the markets on these days, as haggling and bartering go against local traditions.
If you’re interested in visiting the island where the Survivor series was filmed in 2004, a number of tour operators offer day tours that visit this spectacular unspoilt location. The French version of Survivor was also filmed in Vanuatu in 2006. Ask around for tour operators in the major centres if you’re interested in visiting these locations.
