Port Vila Information

Port Vila is the largest city, capital and commercial centre of Vanuatu. it is on the southern coast of the island of Efate and is home to a population of around 40,000. Port Vila has the largest port in Vanuatu and is also the site of the international airport.

The town is mainly a gateway for tourist arrivals and departures and there is plenty of activity around town supporting the needs of tourist who are about to get underway to their resort of chosen holiday destination nearby. The port serves not only imports and exports of food and goods but also boat transfers and tours to nearby islands and reefs. Many buses and taxis also operate out of the town and are easy and cheap to catch to the main island resorts. There are shops where you can come by food, alcohol and of course souveniers and some restaurants and bars as well.

Some of Vanuatu's most popular resorts are located not far from the capital, these are usually nestled on the banks for lagoons and bays. You will also see traditional villages near the town, home to local fisherman and many of the workers who service the resorts.
