Since being granted independence from the British and French in 1980, Vanuatu has been developing a strong national identity based on Melanesian custom. This is a land of cultural variety, fascinating surprises and a renowned relaxed lifestyle. The country also offers unique experiences such as Pentecost Island's naghol ceremonies (the original bungy jump!), diving on a World War II wreck, traditional spirit dances and drinking some of the best coffee in the Pacific (maybe not a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but definitely worth a mention!).
