Te Puke's main claim to fame is the kiwifruit industry.. this is where it all started. Originally known as the Chinese gooseberry and found only in that country, the conditions around Te Puke proved ideal for the for the growing and commercialisation of what is now know'n as kiwifruit. Over the years much of the farmland and and horticultural areas of the region have been converted to kiwifruit, creating a thriving and profitable industry.
At Kiwi 360 you can visit a kiwi fruit farm and learn about the process used to grow and harvest kiwi fruit. The visitor centre also has a large selection of products made from kiwifruit; from distinctive wines and liqueurs to skin-care ranges and jams. Oh, and in case you have never tasted kiwifruit, the staff there will be delighted to offer some free samples!
