Queenstown Information

In winter, Queenstown is a bustling ski resort. In summer it's busy with hikers, mountain bikers, fishermen and swimmers. At any time of year, it attracts a large number of people keen to jump off perfectly good bridges with elastic bands attached to their feet or be thrown around wildly in a speeding jet boat, go paragliding or any number of other adrenaline filled activities.

That's not to say that this is just a place for the young and hyperactive. It's also very popular with people just enjoying the magnificent scenery of Lake Wakitipu and the rugged mountains that surround the town, exploring wine trails (the Otago region has some of the most highly regarded wineries in New Zealand) eating well at the many excellent restaurants and bars or taking day trips to Milford Sound and other parts of the surrounding countryside.

Queenstown is located towards the south of New Zealand's South Island in the Otago region. It is approximately 6 hours drive from Christchurch but closer to the cities of Invercargill and Dunedin. Queenstown airport accepts international flights (mainly from Australia) and from around New Zealand. It is not serviced by rail.
