Marlborough Information

Marlborough is full of activities for you to enjoy. No matter your budget and interests, there is something for everyone. If you are interested in a gourmet experience then a wine tour is a must, whether you join one of the many specialised tours or self drive using the Marlborough Wine Trail map. We have over 40 cellar doors offering tastings where you can compare wines ranging from boutique family producers to well recognised brands.

For a break from wine and food spend an afternoon visiting local gardens and artists’ studios or visit the world class Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre where World War One aircraft are brought to life – a must-do no matter your age or interest in planes.

Spend a day or two exploring the Marlborough Sounds by boat or on foot. Join an early morning cruise through Queen Charlotte Sound stopping to view dolphins on the way to historic Ship Cove and the start of the Queen Charlotte Track. Spend an afternoon walking the first section of the track to Resolution Bay or take a water taxi to Torea Bay to be transported over the saddle to Kenepuru Sound for an afternoon of sea kayaking.

For those who like to get off the beaten track the Pelorus and Awatere regions play host to a range of activities, such as exploring the Pelorus River via walking tracks through ancient forest and taking advantage of hidden river swimming holes. Helicopter to a remote stretch of water for fly fishing or take a 4WD drive tour of the Molesworth Station for a glimpse of life in the New Zealand high country.

Long known for the stunning Marlborough Sounds and famous sauvignon blanc, Marlborough is a region of beauty, where water, wine and wilderness combine to create a relaxing escape. Whether you are seeking adventure, pampering, or romance, Marlborough can oblige.

The Marlborough Sounds is an environmental haven, with winding waterways, sheltered bays and native forest. Cruise, kayak, water-ski, or sail the endless bays where the fish are plentiful and the sparkling waters enticing. A warm welcome awaits you at the lodges and resorts along the way, from where you can hike or mountain bike along breathtaking scenic paths, including the famous Queen Charlotte Track.

Inland, the Wairau and Awatere Plains sweep towards rugged mountains, carpeted in vineyards, olive groves and cherry trees. Marlborough is abundant with local produce from wild meats and seafood to nut oils and heritage vegetables. Sample famous wines at the cellar doors and match them with these regional flavours at one of our award winning restaurants or enjoy a more casual experience at a café or bistro. Whether you are looking for adventure, craving some flavour, or want to sit back and relax, you’re going to love Marlborough!
