Korea Travel Information

Maps, info, image galleries and special offers on packages and hotels to plan your Korea holiday

South Korea has risen from a turbulent past to become one of the wealthiest countries in Asia and a great place to visit. It is also a very proud nation that has kept in touch with its cultural roots, successfully maintaining tradition alongside modernity.

Seoul, the capital of South Korea since the 14th century, is a vibrant and modern city with an ancient history. Start your exploration with a visit to the city’s original entrance, the Great South Gate (Namdaemun) and the nearby Namdaemun markets, selling everything from clothes to ginseng products. Stop by Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), the official residence of the country’s president and visit the Folklore Museum, which is housed in Gyeongbok Palace, home to 13 of Korea’s kings for more than 270 years from 1395AD.

The Korean Folk Village is a must – a living museum of traditional houses, a street market, an amusement park, traditional performances, an art museum and more. Try to visit Korea during an annual festival, including Buddha’s birthday celebrations or the Hi Seoul Festival, both held each year in May. For the history buffs, tour the country’s picturesque landscape northwards to the four-kilometre wide Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) separating North and South Korea, as well as Panmunjeom village, where the armistice was signed that ended the Korean War.
