Acropolis of Lindos Information

Meaning 'the highest city' in Greek, the Acropolis is on the Greek island of Rhodes and is perched above the modern town of Lindos giving breathtaking views of the town and the surrounding Aegean Sea.

Being perfectly situated for a defensive settlement the Acropolis was first fortified by the Greeks then subsequently by the Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. Today many of the original ruins have disappeared but you can still see remnants of the magnificent 4th century BC Temple of Athena Lindia as well as many other historical structures dating back thousands of years.

The Greek Ministry of Culture has recently been restoring the ancient ruins as well as repairing damage done by past restorative attempts so today the Acropolis of Lindos is gives a wonderful insight into ancient Greek history.
