Whistler Information

A resort town in the south west of British Columbia, Whistler is best known as one of North America’s foremost ski resorts. But to think of it only as a winter destination would be a big mistake, and the town has recently forged a reputation as a first rate spot for mountain bikers, campers, and hikers.

That said, there’s no doubt about the town’s biggest asset: snow. With winter bringing more than two hundred runs of various difficulties, plenty of opportunities for cross-country skiing, and what’s likely to be one of Canada’s best après ski scenes, it’s only natural for Whistler’s population to explode during on-season. Needless to say, if your idea of paradise is perfect snow coverage and a flawless slope, Whistler isn’t about to disappoint. But if donning a pair of skis and flying downhill isn’t quite your thing, the dogsled rides, snowmobile tours, andamazing views are sure to keep you occupied.

Of course, one of the best things about a ski trip is heading out for a good dose of après ski fun; something the bars around town are more than happy to administer. The laid back atmosphere and lively crowd pretty much guarantee a good time, and you’re likely to spend more than one night out and about.

Summer visitors to Whistler can expect to find mountain bikers rather than skiers, with an extensive network of bike trails replacing the ski slopes. Long distance and casual hikers also take to the mountains, where tracks can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Other activities include rock climbing, fishing, and chilling out by the lakeside. And it’s not as though the nightlife simply vanishes once the snow melts –the bars, clubs, and restaurants of the townkeep evenings lively all year round.

So whether you feel at home on a snow covered slope, in a good pair of walking boots, or zooming downhill on a mountain bike, Whistler is the place to be.
