Cyprus, the most easterly of the Mediterranean islands, is a beautiful island with a unique landscape of mountains, plains and beaches. The sandy beaches stretch for miles here!

Our North Cyprus Family Tour is based in the hill village of Lapta, located a short drive from the quaint harbour town of Kyrenia, where springs flow from the mountains to water the groves of olives and citrus. We explore St Hilarion Castle which overlooks the Mediterranean, and one of the finest crusader castles in the Middle East, and also Bellapais Abbey, a 12th Century French Gothic Abbey in the Five Finger Mountains.

We have lunch under the Tree of Idleness, and visit Alagadi Turtle Beach, where loggerhead and green turtles come to nest. A second day trip takes us to the North Cyprus capital Nicosia, with its old Ottoman houses and hotel (Kervansaray), food bazaar and local arts and crafts, with time to try some home-made Cypriot food at a traditional restaurant.

We also include a day trip to the Karpas Peninsula, known as the Pan Handle in search of the wild donkeys. Here we explore the beautiful landscape its golden unspoilt beaches, also home to the turtles in season. To the north an eerie, sulphurous-green sheen begins to ripple into the night sky. It arcs itself into an ebb and flow, slowly growing, then suddenly bursts across the full expanse of the night sky waving and dancing as if it were happy. Its the spectacular and mystical Northern Lights, and viewings such as the one above are common in the Yukon.

During the day you can "spice-up" your winter experience by booking half or full day tours of dog mushing, snow mobiling, ice fishing and snow shoeing. Sarawak - the land of longhouses, head-hunters, tribal culture, wildlife, jungles and rainforest, is a fascinating place to explore.

The tour starts and ends in Kuching, Sarawak's busy river capital, with its colourful markets selling exotic spices and ancient Chinese temples. We visit Semengoh Orang Utan Sanctuary where orang utans are being rehabilitated back into the wild, and see them being fed.

In Bako National Park, we go exploring in search of proboscis and silver leaf monkeys, long-tail macaques and other wildlife, later swimming in the sea by secluded beaches. Returning to Kuching, we travel by road and longboat to the Batang Ai reservoir. Here we visit the Iban people in their longhouses, hike jungle trails, cool off under waterfalls and learn to fish Iban style.

The last two nights are spent in the Damai Rainforest area, where there are various optional activities such as water sports, night jungle walks, mangrove swamp cruise or a visit to the Sarawak Cultural Village.
