Day 5 to Day 6 - Bratislava and Budapest, Grand Dames on the Danube A short drive brings you to Bratislava, the fortified capital of Slovakia. Time here to walk from the banks of the Danube to the Old Town's historic squares; all the while the four towered Bratislava Castle looms over the city. The Hungarian border is only a proverbial stone's throw away. Home for the next two nights is amid the elegant grand boulevards of Budapest, former second city of the mighty Habsburg Empire Relax and settle in. Next morning cross the Danube for a stroll through the lanes of the old town of Buda with a local guide. Admire the incredible interior decoration of Matthias Church and take in the view from the Fisherman's Bastion. On days when snow blankets the medieval buildings and wood smoke pervades the narrow streets - it's a scene straight out of a Christmas card This afternoon, cross the border and continue to the Austrian capital for dinner and overnight. Vienna owes much of its present day charm to the long reign of the Habsburgs, so after a relaxed breakfast, join your local guide for a private tour of Maria Theresa's Schonbrunn Palace and formal gardens. Day 5 to Day 6 - Bratislava and Budapest, Grand Dames on the Danube A short drive brings you to Bratislava, the fortified capital of Slovakia. Time here to walk from the banks of the Danube to the Old Town's historic squares; all the while the four towered Bratislava Castle looms over the city. The Hungarian border is only a proverbial stone's throw away. Home for the next two nights is amid the elegant grand boulevards of Budapest, former second city of the mighty Habsburg Empire Relax and settle in. Next morning cross the Danube for a stroll through the lanes of the old town of Buda with a local guide. Admire the incredible interior decoration of Matthias Church and take in the view from the Fisherman's Bastion. Back on the commercial Pest side, see the grand Parliament building and visit Heroes' Square. The rest of the day is yours to browse the boutiques of Vaci Street. In December, the street is festively lit and the Christmas fair will be in full swing This evening get together at a local restaurant for a Celebration Dinner with wine and good cheer.
