On the 19th of February 1942 an event occurred which changed Australia forever; World War II was brought to the shores of Australia when Darwin was bombed by enemy forces. 2012 marks the 70th Anniversary of this historic event. Between the 11th and 26th of February 2012, a two week program of events and activities will take place in Darwin including a commemorative service with a re-enactment of the first bombing raid, a black tie Gala Ball, a one-off commemorative football match, talks and displays at the Darwin City Council libraries, theatrical and arts activities and performances, a war themed movie festival, and more.
