Your Perfect Honeymoon
How to Plan the Perfect Honeymoon

This is your honeymoon and, no doubt, you want it to be the most enjoyable, romantic, pleasurable and well, perfect, holiday of your life! Here's some expert advice to help you plan your perfect honeymoon escape.

Firstly, you need to make sure you are both on the same wavelength when it comes to the destination of your first holiday as husband and wife. As you have already been told a thousand times, marriage is all about compromise! Your honeymoon doesn't have to be the typical week on a tropical island (unless sipping cocktails from coconuts and having your feet massaged in the sun is your cup of tea of course), you can go on a Safari of the African wilderness, discover the hidden laneways of Prague, cruise the Mediterranean, even trek the Antarctic or plan your very own combination! All you need to ensure is that this destination will meet all your expectations at the time of year you want to go! So start by writing down everything you want to do, see, experience or encounter. Everything from breakfast in bed every day to climbing an active volcano to trying your first Singapore Sling! When you have a description of your ideal destination - just match it with your holiday!

Secondly, research, research, research. If spending hours pouring over travel brochures, atlases and Lonely Planet books doesn't sound appealing (or you already have enough to think about) find a friendly, competent travel consultant to assist you. A good Travel Consultant will have in-depth knowledge about everything you need to know and will ensure you don't forget any of the little details. Before visiting a travel agent, however, you will need to decide on your budget. You don't need to break down how you want to spend the money yet, just have a firm idea of just how much you want to spend.

If a travel agent isn't your speed and you want this to be a job you did all by yourself - the important thing to remember is you need to cover all bases. If you are the type of person who would prefer a single flight and a quick cab ride - don't choose a destination that requires four legs and three transfers and a boat ride! Get as many brochures, testimonials, destination guides and suggestions from friends before you go any further.

Next, you need to plan a basic itinerary - what do you want to do, see and experience while you are on your honeymoon. Once you have a simple plan, you can select your accommodation! You will need to decide just how important your accommodation really is. Do you want to be pampered and indulged in pure luxury or is this just somewhere to lay your head at the end of a busy day sight-seeing? Also make sure you read the details and fine print of all tours, flights, car hire and accommodation to ensure you are making the most informed choice.

Once you've done all your homework, finalised your destination details and chosen who you're going to book through, it's time to book. Always give yourself plenty of time to do this, whether you're booking everything over the phone, online or in person with an agent. This isn't something that's going to take five minutes. Be sure to mention that you will be on your honeymoon as some companies may offer upgrades or honeymoon packages that you can take advantage of. Finally, make sure you have written confirmation of everything and take the name of the person you book with so you can ask to speak to them if you need to go back with any questions.
