European River Cruises
While river cruises tend to attract fewer families than ocean cruises, there are many highlights the kids are bound to love along the way. This is the land of castles, after all. Magic abounds at the stunning Nuremberg Castle, Vienna’s many palaces, and the medieval village of Beilstein. In Amsterdam, don’t miss the NEMO Science Centre and in Prague, a puppet show will light up even the oldest of faces.
From beautiful scenery to romantic pursuits, it’s easy to feel the love in Europe. Pick up a bunch of blooms at the flower markets in Rotterdam, wander through Germany’s Black Forest, and admire the baroque cathedrals of Porto in Portugal. Otherwise, bend down on one knee at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, take a cable car ride over the Rhine Gorge for breathtaking views, or spend a day taste testing the world-class wines of Bordeaux.
While it’s easy to walk around on foot in many of the port cities, the larger centres will also have a great range of public transport options and taxis to help you get around. A great way to explore though is on a guided tour, where you’ll never miss a highlight lurking just around the corner.
Europe is renowned for its historic cities touting winding narrow alleyways and cobblestone streets. It’s for this very reason that comfortable walking shoes are important! While a pair of fancy shoes is great onboard and for fancy dinners out, during the day, comfort is the top priority. Also be sure to check the weather before you go and prepare by packing a warm coat or raincoat if needed.
